During World War I, the conflict quickly devolved into a prolonged stalemate. Opposing lines, increasingly elaborate trenches, and extensive fortifications made every advance slow and perilous.

This context gave rise to new operational demands and, with them, specialized units trained for rapid incursions and targeted actions in extremely hostile environments. Among these, the Arditi stood out – Italian assault units composed of elite men, trained for close combat with skill, courage, and determination. To meet the practical needs of this new type of engagement, the Arditi could no longer rely on their long, cumbersome Vetterli 1870 bayonets, which were unsuitable for the confined spaces of trenches and barbed wire. Their bayonet blades were therefore cut down and transformed into more compact and functional knives, essential tools designed for readiness in action.

Extrema Ratio celebrates this tactical knife with the Arditi Limited Edition "Sabatini", a special production of only 200 numbered pieces, dedicated to Carlo Sabatini, an Arditi officer and an emblematic figure of initiative and valor.

On May 13, 1918, Carlo Sabatini performed an action destined to enter Italian military historical memory: with just four men, he was the first to climb the steep walls of Monte Corno, evading the observation of Austrian sentinels. Once at the summit, he surprised a large enemy garrison, engaging in close combat that led to the capture of the position. No one escaped: many fell, and six were captured, including the commanding officer. Shortly after, Sabatini led a second group to consolidate control of the strategic point, in an action as risky as it was decisive. For this act, he received the Gold Medal for Military Valor, awarded by King Victor Emmanuel III.

The Arditi Limited Edition “Sabatini” reinterprets the lines of the original Arditi model, revisited with modern technical solutions. The single-edged blade, with a spear-point profile, is crafted from Böhler N690 steel (58 HRC) with a Dark Stone finish, a combination that offers high resistance and a matte finish designed to prevent unwanted reflections. The handle is made from national walnut wood, which is crafted and shaped to provide excellent ergonomics, balance, and a secure grip. Each knife is encased in a customized, individually numbered wooden box and accompanied by a black leather sheath, both designed to best enhance the uniqueness and collectible nature of this limited edition. The Arditi Limited Edition “Sabatini” is more than just a knife: it is the result of research combining historical memory, functional design, and manufacturing excellence, an authentic tribute to one of the most significant chapters in Italian military tradition.
